Advance Health Directives

An Advance Health Directive (AHD) can be made by a competent person with full legal capacity and outlines their decisions about future treatment. If a person is unable to make reasonable judgements about a treatment decision outlined in the AHD and that treatment is required, the AHD would then come into effect.

SAT’s role can include making a declaration about the validity of an AHD or a treatment decision in an AHD, the incapacity of the maker of the AHD, or that a treatment decision has been revoked. SAT can also make orders recognising an AHD created in another jurisdiction as an AHD in WA.
