Firearms and Security Licences

SAT has jurisdiction under the Firearms Act 1973 to review decisions made by or on behalf of the Commissioner of Police under the Act, including the grant, issue or renewal (or refusal to grant, issue or renew) or revocation or variation of licences, permits or approvals under this Act, and the imposition of any restrictions, limitations or conditions on the licences, permits or approvals.

SAT has jurisdiction under the Security and Related Activities (Control) Act 1996 to hear disciplinary action complaints brought or referred by the Commissioner of Police against a person who holds or held the relevant licence (such as a security officer’s licence or crowd controller’s licence). SAT also reviews certain decisions made by a licensing officer (including to refuse to issue or renew a licence or refuse to grant an endorsement) or by the Commissioner in revoking a licence.
