The State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) is an independent body established under the State Administrative Tribunal Act 2004 (WA). It has a wide ranging jurisdiction to make original decisions and to review administrative decisions made by WA Government Ministers, public officials, vocational regulatory bodies and local governments.

The SAT is seeking expressions of interest to fill an Ordinary Member position commencing as soon as practicable for a period of appointment of up to five years. Members are eligible for reappointment.

Applicants should either have:

  • Relevant legal qualifications and at least five years’ legal experience; or
  • Extensive knowledge of, or experience with, any class of matter involved in the exercise of SAT’s jurisdiction.

SAT’s jurisdiction covers the following areas:

  • Commercial and Civil, including the areas of strata titles, retirement villages, commercial tenancies, building disputes;
  • Development and Resources, including the areas of local government, planning and taxation;
  • Human Rights, including the areas of equal opportunity, guardianship and administration; and
  • Vocational Regulation, including disciplinary action and licensing in relation to a range of regulated vocations.

It is also highly desirable that applicants have qualifications and experience in mediation.
