Animal Welfare and Produce

SAT has jurisdiction under the following pieces of legislation and has powers including:

Animal Welfare Act 2002

  • to review decisions by the Minister for Agriculture and Food relating to a licence to use animals for scientific purposes or to carry on a business of supplying animals for use for scientific purposes
  • to review an inspector’s decision in relation to certain powers

Marketing of Potatoes Act 1946

  • to determine disputes over payment in respect of potatoes by the Potato Marketing Corporation of Western Australia

Western Australian Meat Industry Authority Act 1976

  • to review decisions by the Western Australian Meat Industry Authority relating to approval of an abattoir or structural alterations/additions to an abattoir
