A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT
The State Administrative Tribunal, amongst other things, has jurisdiction under some 35 Acts of State Parliament to review decisions of vocational regulation bodies and determine applications made by vocational regulation bodies for disciplinary orders. In pursuit of its statutory objectives to achieve the resolution of disputes, act as speedily as is practicable, and minimise the costs to parties, the Tribunal not only conducts final hearings but also resolves proceedings through mediation or compulsory conference. The orders made as a result of matters settling, whether through mediation or otherwise, are publicly available on the Tribunal’s website, as are orders resulting from final hearings. This bulletin, which in future will be published quarterly, provides a brief indication of the Tribunal’s activities in the vocational regulation area. It contains, in respect of vocational regulation:
· Summaries of written reasons for decisions published between 1 January 2008 and 30 June 2008;
· A list of decisions pending in the Tribunal as at 1 July 2008;
· A list of matters in which final orders were made by the Tribunal between 1 January 2008 and 30 June 2008;
· A list of appeals decided by the Supreme Court or Court of Appeal between 1 January 2008 and 30 June 2008; and
· A list of appeals pending in the Supreme Court or Court of Appeal as at 1 July 2008.
The full text of the Tribunal’s reasons for decision and the terms of the Tribunal’s orders can be found on the Tribunal's website at the Decisions Database.
